Hi. I wanted to quickly jump on and tell you we have placed a fantastic find on our Etsy Shop for anyone interested in a very special gift for St Patrick’s Day.

As many of you know, I lived half the time in Ireland and the other half in Ohio from 2008 until 2019. My partner and I operated an antique and a handmade craft shop behind our home in County Wexford. Sadly, my partner passed away, and I moved what I could to Ohio, specifically the Antique tikels, beach stones, etc., and a few additional antiques when I returned to the USA. He also made a good bit of woodworking beauties in his workshop here in Ohio, and I still have some of those items for sale, mainly his wood boxes.

Currently, I have a couple of shops on Etsy. This link will get you to the main site. I scour local antique and collectible shops for items to sell and continue to make sea art and other assembly items for sale on this site. A link is also on the home page header of my website.

Below is the ad on Etsy for the framed tile. This tile is an original, not a reproduction. John went all over Ireland looking for Victorian and Edwardian cast-iron fireplaces. He took the antiques apart and used various components to redesign antiques for sale.

Below is a pot rack he made, with medallions on either side, salvaged from an old fireplace.

Below is another fireplace medallion he framed. This item was by far my favorite.

Cast iron tile in a handmade oak frame

He also had boxes of tiles from the surround of these fireplaces. I have many framed tiles in my home now and have sold a good few over time. This tile is one of the last tiles I have. left. Below is from the ad on Etsy. Please check it out if interested.

Rare Art Nouveau Majolica tile- unattributed- 1890 to 1905

Bring home a piece of Ireland’s tradition. St. Patrick’s Day and we all wish to have a bit of Ireland…This extremely rare tile from a Victorian fireplace in Ireland is just the thing.

This excellent and rare embossed Art Nouveau Majolica tile features a detailed shamrock, the flower of Ireland, on a chequered pattern. The deep iridescent green and creamy white glazes are dramatic. Measuring 6 by 6 inches, the tile is in great condition for its age, with no chips or cracks. The back (verso) shows expected sooting from fireplace use and lacks a manufacturer’s mark.

The tile is placed in a handmade oak tile created specifically for these 6 x 6 fireplace tiles. The frame includes a back cover with placement screws, and a bradd hanger is attached for hanging the tile on a wall if desired.

Tile and a handmade frame are available for $75.00

We obtained this tile for our antique shop in County Wexford, Ireland. We removed the tile from an old cast-iron fireplace surround. In Victorian time, the tiles were purchase from various tile manufacturers and foundries in England. I have since moved back to the USA permanently and bought many items from the Irish shop, bringing them to my shop here in Ohio.

I have searched for these unique shamrock tiles at various Victorian tile research sites, including Tile Heaven. This unmarked Victorian Art Nouveau Majolica shamrock tile resembles those made from 1890s to 1906 by the Corn Brothers, Baratt, and Marsden Founderies.

I did happen to find an antique cast-iron fireplace with these exact tiles in the surround listed for sale by the antique dealer Worth Point. https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/antique-cast-iron-fireplace-shamrock-247627904
